BETSY THOMPSON

Betsy Thompson provides strategic policy guidance to Invariant’s defense and appropriations clients. With nearly a decade of policy experience at the Pentagon and on Capitol Hill, Betsy helps clients design policy solutions and navigate the evolving landscape of defense and national security policy.
Before joining Invariant, Betsy served in the Biden-Harris Administration as Acting Team Chief for Acquisition and Sustainment within the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Legislative Affairs. She directly supported the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment and collaborated with Capitol Hill to advance Department priorities and initiatives. In addition to preparing principals for congressional testimony, briefings, and engagements, she worked on a wide range of issues including the defense industrial base; Defense Production Act Title III; critical minerals; the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States; small business; cybersecurity; artificial intelligence; and nuclear, chemical, and biological defense programs.
Previously, Betsy worked as a senior defense and foreign policy advisor for Rep. John Garamendi (D-CA). Betsy led efforts to advance the congressman’s priorities in the annual National Defense Authorization Act.
Betsy is a graduate of Pepperdine University.
