JOEL RICHARD

Democratic counsel Joel Richard brings over a decade of public and private sector experience to Invariant, where he advises clients on issues ranging from antitrust and emerging technologies to cybersecurity and health care. Joel is known for fashioning actionable, strategic plans and relevant stories that resonate and get results.
Before Invariant, Joel served nearly a decade with Congressman Ted Deutch (D-FL), most recently as senior counsel and chief speechwriter. There, he led legislative strategy and coordinated stakeholder engagement on a range of policy issues including Department of Justice oversight, antitrust, intellectual property, health care, veterans affairs, and education.
Before his work on the Hill, Joel was a litigation associate at Mayer Brown LLP. He began his career as a law clerk for the Washtenaw County Public Defender in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Joel graduated from Grand Valley State University and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School.
